The company worked with DonorsChoose.org around Teacher Appreciation Week May 4-8 to donate $1.1 million to meet classroom needs.

Over $250,000 of the funds went to teachers in Illinois, many of whom hosted U.S. Cellular employee visitors in their classrooms.

“Chicago Public Schools appreciates the support U.S. Cellular has provided to our schools and teachers through the DonorsChoose.org partnership,” said Dr. Barbara Eason-Watkins, Chief Education Officer of the Chicago Public Schools. “The recognition and reward offered to these extraordinary teachers further supports their daily efforts to bring added resources to their classroom learning environments.”

U.S. Cellular also made a recent donation of 10,000 vouchers for free tickets to April or May White Sox games. The vouchers were disctributed for use by CPS students.

Crane Alumna Chaz Ebert said, “We want these students to remember that it’s important to know where you came from and that they stand on the shoulders of those who came before them. We’re doing everything we can to give them a helping hand because they represent our future,”

The group challenged other CPS alumni to get involved at their own schools citywide. Alumni of Crane and any other Chicago Public School can reconnect with their schools and each other at CPSalumni.org.
