Available Free Things
The Free Things program accepts gently used and new donations and distributes them to requesting CPS schools. We post items here so that schools can see what is available. Donations are tax deductible. If your school or your organization would like to make a donation, please email freethings@helpCPS.org or call (773) 553-1545. Principals and staff members can use the online request form to request items from the list.
End Of The Year Letter:
June 01, 2010
Free Things Participants,
As the school year begins to wind down I would like to thank you for your participation in the Free Things program. We are currently focused on gathering supplies and materials for next school year. As a result, we are suspending submission of new Free Things requests effective June 01, 2010. Our office will be redesigning the program’s web-page over the Summer Break creating a new and improved requesting process. The new site will be available online at the beginning of next year.
In the meantime, we need your help! Please continue to visit the Free Things page, and look for the link to a survey about the program. We would like your feedback and any input you may have regarding the Free Things program. Your advice and recommendations are valuable to us as the program continues to grow and involve additional participants.
Thanks again for another great year and we look forward to working with you during the next school year.
Sincerely,
Michael Manning

Free Things Survey:
Free Things Wish List:
We would like to know what items you need for your school! Some donations we receive are not posted on the Free Things page. Instead, certain items go directly to schools that have a wish list on file with our office. Wish lists help us find out about specific items your school could use. If your school needs something that hasn’t been posted or if your request hasn’t been granted, please complete a wish list so that we can help meet your school’s needs.
Posting Procedures:
Items will be posted by the Department of External Affairs and Partnerships. Submission of a request does not guarantee receipt of the item. Our priority is to distribute items broadly across CPS, so schools who have not previously received donations are the highest priority. Schools (or programs) who are chosen to receive the items will be notified of their status as quickly as possible through e-mail (please do not call for status updates). Principals must designate a point person with whom delivery arrangements shall be made.
For Schools Requesting Computers:
Please visit the Guide for Receiving Computer Donations for detailed instructions.
For Schools Looking To Recycle Usable Items:
If you’re a retiring teacher, your school is closing or moving, or if your school no longer has use for reusable materials please contact the Free Things Coordinator and we can help facilitate a School to School Donation.
