Principal for a Day
Principal for a Day (PFAD) is a program designed to bring business and civic leaders into the Chicago Public Schools to serve as principal for one day each fall and begin an ongoing partnership with their school.
Mayor Daley brought PFAD to Chicago in 1998, and since then thousands of business and civic leaders have broadened their understanding of the accomplishments and challenges of the students, teachers and principals and launched or renewed their commitment to CPS by providing volunteers as well as materials and financial resources to support the schools.

Outstanding School Partnership Award
The Partnerships Office awarded six Bank of America Outstanding Partnership Awards to schools and organizations during the Principal for a Day luncheon on October 29, 2009. We seek to recognize successful partnerships that significantly impact a school’s students and staff. Eligible partnerships must include participation by the organization’s chief officer, the donation of material resources and three volunteer activities held per school year. Our goal is to honor the principals and organizations that have worked to create lasting relationships. The six winning schools will receive $500, a photo with the mayor, an award plaque and a poster detailing the partnership.
