PFAD Yields Generous Gifts to Schools
The Principal for a Day event held on October 30, 2008, yielded many generous contributions from organizations and individuals. Here is a selection of donations the Partnerships Office heard about:
- Carolyn Gable, CEO of new Age Transportation donated 400 thanksgiving dinners, valued at over $16,000 to the families of the students at Social Justice High School.
- Dr. Phylis Shafron of the Devon Shafron Memorial fund donated $5,000 worth of books to Byrne Elementary school.
- International Profit Associates donated $10,000 to their partner school, N. Davis Elementary. They also donated eight new computers.
- S&C Electric donated $5,000 to their partner school, G. Armstrong.
- Quaker Pepsico continued their partnership by donating $10,000 to each of their partner schools, Wells, Libby and Jenner.
- Mr. Abjide Toure presented his partner school, Carver Primary with a check for $1,200 to cover field trip expenses.
- Relational Technology Solutions is providing a field trip for December 15th to their headquarters in Rolling Meadows for the students of their partner school, Chicago Academy. They are providing bus transportation, lunch and gifts.
- It’s Clean USA donated 25 wall-mounted hand sanitizer dispensers, one in each classroom, & gave each teacher a bottle of surface sanitizer at their new partner school, Coleman Elementary.
- Mr. Emir Alrawi of IMC Chicago is funding a part time social worker at Corkery Elementary in response to the Principal’s identification of this position as the most urgent need at the school
- Joe Silich of Morgan Stanley is funding a visit to the Walnut Room for the McDowell Elementary School Choir at the holidays and paying for their participation in an international studies event
- Crowe Chizek distributed holiday gifts to the students at Hinton Elementary and donated 30 gently used laptop computers to the school
- Microsoft Corporation donated 35 copies of Microsoft Office to Finkl Elementary
- Several PFADs contributed toward visits from the StoryBus. William Brodsky with the Chicago Board Options Exchange donated $1400 on behalf of Drake School, Grace Carroll Barry donated $100 on behalf of Budlong School, and the Chicago Tribune Foundation donated $700 on behalf of Carson School.
